Halloween at The Children’s Art School

Our Intermediate and senior groups really outshone themselves with this fantastic Halloween big draw!

Using themselves (by drawing around each other) they used light and dark to create these skeletal/ghostly figures:

Seniors started adding an accessory here and there!!

Drawing and painting class

Great work being produced at our evening class for high school kids and grown ups.

This 6 week course aims to develop observation skills and to enable students to create the illusion of 3D using light and shade as well as begin to understand composition . We are exploring drawing and painting, using pencil, charcoal, collage and paint.

Using large decorating brushes and just black and white paint the group really enjoyed making these large scale pieces.. and look how confident these paintings are… and its only week 3!

Honley Feast Parade 2017

We have loved being part of the Honley Feast Parade in collaboration with Rhythm Sticks.

With a  nod to the history of Honley Feast when the day would start with a circus parading through the streets Katie Mallard from Rhythm Sticks led a samba band wearing hand-made costumes-(lions and giraffes ) and children from Farnley Tyas school (elephants) through the streets and to the Honley Feast site. They looked and sounded fantastic!

Unity Day, Leeds

A great day full of energy and creativity at Unity Day in Hyde Park, Leeds.

Supporting University of Huddersfield and their Rotor project  we offered children and families the chance to get creative with cardboard  and  to visualise their community by drawing each other.

Thanks to the School of Art, Design and Architecture at University of Huddersfield for inviting us along!

Oaks Primary at Byram Arcade

As part of our Byram Arcade residency Oaks Primary School, Huddersfield  brought 15 classes  to experience making large scale artwork. Each group had an afternoon with us in our studio and the results were fantastic.

Each Year group had a different theme..

Yr 4’s were exploring the theme ‘Pollution Solution’

We made a BIG print which shows Huddersfield’s skyline. The children then explored other print techniques to show what pollutes our world and  also robots, wind turbines and other potential and imagined solutions…

Yr 5’s looked at our relationship with space…. can you see Emley mast and Castle Hill…?! They used a variety of print techniques and also played the ‘shape game’ to create brilliant aliens!

And Yr 3′s who have been learning about the Vikings at school got to grips with using light and dark to create the illusion of 3d on their tentacles and really enjoyed creating sea monsters for their beautiful sea prints..

We created a whopping 15 large scale collaged prints and they looked great hanging in the Arcade….

Dragons at Castle Hill

The Dragon of Castle Hill

All our young artists at Byram Arcade have loved making  and creating dragons over the last few weeks!

Our Saturday Art School groups all contributed to creating this fantastic charcoal back drop…

The big 2d dragons were made collaboratively… and involved a lot of  splashing, pouring and dripping of paint…

as well as printing and collaging…

We made clay dragons

and dragon masks

dragon tails..

and some dragons were even snapped catching the lift in their wearable tractors!!

Then we took our dragons off the wall….

Little Art Club made an enormous orange dragon….

and a little green one too…

Junior Art Club worked brilliantly together to make a beautiful blue dragon…

They all looked great at Castle hill….

Of course we needed some knights to fight the dragons off….

and some of us made our own small pet dragons…which you can currently see perched on our window sills!!

Spring Half term workshop fun!

We had some lovely busy workshops this half term creating collaborative collages all about Huddersfield Parks  (the artworks are all ready to be used on the Parks departments new vans!)

Some lovely colour through printing brightened up our grey and wet half term! And everyone loved making bird masks..

…..we had some lovely painted jackdaws and waxwings. Look our for them around Huddersfield!
